What had just happened? Had she really done that to the Moon prince? What was the protocol for a situation like this? Maomao kept asking herself all sorts of questions, as she walked back to the estate she was staying at. To be fair, she would rather not have such distracting thoughts, but it was inevitable since all the guests had left to their rooms after the whole Lishu and lion with a broken nose situation—therefore, the venue was quite empty and silent. The only area in which voices could be heard was in a room next to the main entrance, probably the organizers arguing over the previous event. Maomao honestly couldn’t care at that moment, all she wanted was to get back to her room already, without bringing unnecessary attention to herself, however the dress she was hauling around as well as her jewelry made it challenging. Why was she given such flashy clothes and accessories again?
“I feel like that Lahan is to somehow blame for this.”
However, as much as she wished she could blame another person for the antics that went down a few minutes ago, there was no hiding from the facts… she had kissed Jinshi—quite intensely as well.
Maomao stopped in the corridor for a moment and let out an annoyed sigh, with the tiniest blush on her cheek.
……………………
Finally, she had gotten back to her room, well the room she was temporarily given. It was spacious, with big windows, honestly a very lavish place she would like to enjoy as much as possible, and what better way to do that than to sleep. Maomao was glad to finally get the beautiful but heavy gown and jewelry off her, it felt refreshing to change into her warm sleep wear. The hairstyle however was taking a while to undo. And as she was maneuvering her way into getting rid of the accessories that held the hair up, a small thud was heard on the carpet below. She turned her gaze towards the sound; there, a silver hair stick was lying on the ground. Maomao looked at it for a few seconds before deciding to pick it up. She held it in her hand, inspecting the details like she had done earlier before the party; she kind of understood now why people had been curious or commenting about it, especially because of the crest moon figure.
“So, he got it made for me...?” Maomao thought, while she looked at the poppy details.
A moment after, she shook her head and placed the hair stick on the table next to the other accessories. She brushed her hair after getting the final bead off the front, and was almost done, now all she had to do was wash her face. Thankfully, the room had a bathing area, so she grabbed a bucket and filled it with water, then grabbed a cloth from her belongings to soak it and wipe her makeup off. She couldn’t help but remember a few days ago in the paper village, while she was cleaning her feet, Jinshi knocked on her door and Maomao ended up washing his face with foot water…
“Ah, just thinking about it, still gives me the chills.”
Maomao got annoyed at herself for thinking yet again of that person.
“Too much Jinshi for one night. I just need to sleep, and this will all go away in the morning.” Maomao said as she turned the candle lights from the lanterns off and got comfortable in bed. It didn’t take her too long to fall asleep, since the covers were so soft and warm. However, it may have been an hour or 2, when she got woken up by the sound of two people yelling at each other.
“…” She had her eyes semi open, looking at the roof once more, those were some lousy neighbors.
Thankfully after 10 minutes, what felt like an eternity, the yelling seemed to have stopped. And so, her eyes began to close again, when a thought flashed through her mind. Maomao, even though it was dark, got up from the bed and waddled herself over to the table where she had placed the hair stick, she recalled where the box it had come from was, and carefully put it back inside, it was an expensive piece, she didn’t want it to get stolen.
After that eventful night, one could say she slept like a baby afterwards.
